Emergency Loans (Student Aid Society)This program is designed to provide emergency short-term loans that must be repaid. You may borrow a small amount of money on a personal note at a legal rate of interest for a one month period. Money is made available through contributions of the University, alumni, private organizations and many individual friends of the University. You must be enrolled as a full time student, have a 2.0 overall grade point average and a good credit rating. All students are eligible to apply for these short-term loans regardless of whether they are receiving other forms of financial aid. To apply, complete an application form obtained from the Vice President for Business Affairs, Room 120 of the Jones Building, E.K.U. Allow at least two days for processing. The loan must usually be repaid within four weeks and you are charged an interest rate of 6% or $2 (whichever is greater). Students who have delinquent loans will have their grades sealed in the Registrar's office and will not be allowed to register for the next semester. Delinquent loans will be collected through a collection agency. Any additional expenses incurred in the collection of the note will be added to the student's repayment. Federal Student Work Study ProgramThe Federal Student Work Study Program provides part time jobs to students who have financial need as determined by the Application for Federal Student Aid. This program is federally funded. Campus work opportunities are varied in their interest and their challenge. You might work as a clerical assistant, food server, farm worker, resident assistant, lab assistant or as a tutor. Eligibility - Federal student employees must be registered for at least six (6) credit hours. Students are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week during the semester and up to 40 hours per week between sessions and during the summer. Eligibility is determined by your Financial Aid Award Package. Award Amount - The amount of your work study award is based on financial need and the funds available. Most campus positions pay the current Federally approved minimum wage, however, some work assignments such as Food Service and Physical Plant, offer varying pay rates. Application - Application is made by completing a FAFSA Renewal Application. An E.K.U. Request for Aid is also required. These forms are available at E.K.U.'s Division of Student Financial Assistance. Notification - You will receive an award notification from the Division of Student Financial Assistance informing you of the amount of the award. It is your responsibility to contact the Student Employment Office, Room 251, Student Services Building, to inquire about the jobs available and to sign all payroll papers. Once you has been hired and have signed the necessary payroll papers, you will receive a paycheck every two weeks for the number of hours worked. Employment Procedures - Students who have been awarded Federal Work Study or who are applying for Institutional Employment, can inquire about available jobs at http://www.finaid.eku.edu/employment/ or through the Office of Student Employment. (Jobs with a classification of FWS are Federal Work Study Positions) You should then pick up a Work Authorization Form from the Coordinator of Work Programs (251 Student Services Building). This should be done before or during registration as there will be a larger selection of jobs at that time. You will need to interview for any position in which you are interested, and if the department wishes to hire you, the supervisor will sign the Work Authorization Form. This form must be returned to the Student Employment Office (251 Student Services Building) and payroll papers must be signed before you may begin to work. Institutional Student Work Study ProgramE.K.U. provides funds to employ students on a part-time basis who do not qualify for the Federal Work Study Program. Institutional jobs are available in a number of different areas and the work schedule is built around the student's class schedule. Eligibility - You must be registered for at least 12 credit hours, each semester you work, except during the summer session. Students are eligible for up to 20 hours per week during the semester and up to 40 hours per week between sessions and during the summer.
