Michael's job/research description: My past work has centered on presence/absence mist-netting surveys for T & E's, primarily the Indiana bat, while evaluating habitat for same and identifying all bats captured during surveys. Such work has been conducted in IL, IN, KY, OH, MI, and TN. Current efforts are directed toward protecting a gray bat nursery cave from flooding (as much as possible) at a Corps project in KY. In addition to presence/absence surveys, future work will involve additional protection for this cave, a survey of other caves on Corps property for protective measures or controls, and negotiations with the Bloomington Field Office of the USFWS regarding protective measures for gray bats relating to closure and reuse of the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant in southern Indiana.
