Department News:

May 2003 - Bill Farrar retired and moved to Spearfish, South Dakota.
 
 

February 2001 - Bill Farrar was selected as a recipient of an EKU Foundation Professorship, the University's highest honor for teaching excellence.

December 2000 - Don Batch retired and has moved to Florida. A banquet in his honor was held on November 11 at Arlington.

November 2000 - Robert Creek has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the current academic year (May 2001).

August 2000 - Our new ichthyologist, Sherry Harrel (Univ. of Mississippi), is teaching Introductory Biology & Freshwater Ecology this fall.

December 1999 - Pat Ceas resigned to pursue other career opportunities.

May 1999 - David Mardon retired after many years of teaching microbiology.

May 1999 - University President Bob Kustra announced a reorganization of the University. The College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences was merged with two other colleges to form a new College of Arts and Sciences. As a result, Donald Batch will be stepping down as Dean and will be teaching in the biology department during the 1999-2000 academic year.

April 1999 - William Farrar is proud to announce the birth of his first grandson, Griffon Farrar. In honor of Griffon's birth state (Colorado), Grandpa Bill passed out small cans of Coors rather than the traditional cigars.

August 1998 - Barbara Ramey assumed the position of Department Chair. The previous Chair, Ross Clark, remains in the department and teaches botany, dendrology, and other courses.

May 1998 - Pete Thompson retired & was replaced by Steve Sumithran (check out Steve's web page!)


News of Alumni:

August 2000 - Tom Sproat has accepted a faculty position at Northern Kentucky University.

July 1999 - Jeff Duguay has accepted a wildlife faculty position at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. His new address is: Arthur Temple College of Forestry, Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, TX 75962-6109

June 1999 - Mark Vrtiska has accepted a position with the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission as the State Waterfowl Program Manager.

June 1999 - Meg Bommarito is now working at the Fort Worth (Texas) Zoo as a Conservation Biologist/Enrichment Coordinator.

April 1999 - David Swofford was inducted into the EKU Distinguished Alumnus Hall of Fame.

April 1999 - Chris Hill has accepted a faculty position at Coastal Carolina University.
