Freeman Lake

Located in Hardin County, on the north side of Elizabethtown, Freeman Lake hosts a number of diving ducks in winter and fall migration.  It is less exciting in spring.  Normally as host of common ducks, Eared Grebe, Tundra Swan and other notables have spent time here.

To reach the lake, take exit 96 on Interstate 65 and follow KY 61 west/south to KY 2002 which goes around Elizabethtown, then follow 2002 until you reach US 31W.  Turn left here and watch for a Coca Cola facility on the left.  There is also a small sign indicating the presence of the lake.

Turn left and drive past the Coke facility to a small city park that contains the lake.  In winter, parts of the park may be closed.  That matters little as nearly the entire lake may be scoped from the area near the concession stand/picnic ground directly to your right as you enter the park.

It is also possible to view the tailwater of the lake at a pullover on KY 2002 as it looks around Elizabethtown. Usually, only common dabblers are visible from here.
